in the era of climate diplomacy, global fossil fuel consumption has risen 57%.” Pielke adds “While important assumptions go unchallenged and challenging questions go unasked, the IPCC is about to release a report on 1.5 degrees (fantasy land).

As reported by CBC News, Feb. 08, 2018, Canada is overhauling its environmental assessment of major natural resource projects to incorporate climate change in all matters, but Friends of Science Society says the proposed changes are equivalent to Canada saying to investors “We dare you to try and do business here,” referring to a blog post by Ottawa energy policy consultant Robert Lyman of Feb. 11, 2018. Lyman had previously contributed numerous analyses of the proposed changes which are linked within the story.
A new blog post by Roger Pielke, Jr. of Feb. 11, 2018, pours cold water on climate change catastrophe politics – providing evidence that extreme weather events and losses are down and that most climate catastrophe prophets use the highest, hottest climate projections, which are far from the real, observed temperatures. Pielke also shows that ‘in the era of climate diplomacy, global fossil fuel consumption has risen 57%.” Pielke adds “While important assumptions go unchallenged and challenging questions go unasked, the IPCC is about to release a report on 1.5 degrees (fantasy land).”
Climate change activists like those associated with the LEAP Manifesto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are outspoken in their vehement opposition to pipelines; some parties associated with LEAP were reportedly funded earlier on by offshore sources as outlined in the US Senate report “The Chain of Environmental Command: How a Club of Billionaires and Their Foundations Control the Environmental Movement and Obama’s EPA” of July 30, 2014. As reported by researcher Vivian Krause to the Canadian Senate, Nov. 1, 2016, many millions of dollars have been paid to various Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (ENGOs), some with explicit statements of intent to block or slow Canadian pipeline or oil sands production.
Most surprising is that the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), who are paid from the public purse, have been actively blocking pipelines and are enthusiastic signatories to the LEAP Manifesto as reported on the CUPE website, Nov. 5, 2015.
LEAP activists will be meeting in Ottawa Feb. 15, 2018 at a “Courage to Leap” event. Friends of Science Society advises it takes more than courage to make good policy. Rather than a LEAP, Canadians are advised to #LookB4ULeap. See Friends of Science LookB4ULeap Manifesto as a springboard for constructive dialogue.
Friends of Science Society holds the position that the sun is the main direct and indirect driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide.

Friends of Science Society is an independent group of earth, atmospheric and solar scientists, engineers, and citizens, celebrating its 16th year of offering climate science insights. After a thorough review of a broad spectrum of literature on climate change, Friends of Science Society has concluded that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2).
